About Blue Rum Consulting

Blue Rum Consulting Limited is a one-man IP development company run by Michael (Mike) Rumsey. Mike has more than 30 years of experience spanning ASIC CAD and ASIC design. He has been in ASIC design since the industry's infancy and has developed digital designs for 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation cellular. He is first and foremost a project engineer with the well rounded skills required to analyse requirements, plan the project and then make it happen.

Mike has worked for companies such as Texas Instruments, TTPCom and CSR. During this time he has provided designs and IP to many clients including Nokia, Samsung, Toshiba, Renesas, Intel, and Skyworks. Further details of Mike's experience are here.

The company is based in a village near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire UK. Development work is done on two quad-core 64 bit PCs running SUSE linux. For modelling we use C and Octave - a GNU version of Matlab, which for the most part behaves exactly like Matlab. Modelsim is used for simulation. Altera and Xilinx FPGA tools provide a means of verifying synthesisability, however it must be emphasised that our experience and design ethos is highly low-power ASIC oriented. A Xilinx Virtex 6 ML605 board is used for prototyping and to provide greater hardware verification than is possible in simulation.

Mike is married to Lillian and has a dog called Anja.
